“Post Block” Memorial

Description:

This memorial commemorates the victims of the communist regime in Albania. The memorial features a part of Berlin’s wall, a mushroom bunker, and a few pillars from the notorious Spaç camp. The memorial is the work of the writer and former political dissident, Fatos Lubonja and the painter Ardian Isufi. The 2.6-ton-thick gravel wall is a gift from the city of Berlin. The concrete pillars come from the mine in Spaç, where prisoners were held and executed the punishment of forced labor many opponents of the communist regime. While the bunker was there to preserve the main entrance of the residential block separated from the rest of the city, where in 1945-1991 the last dictator Enver Hoxha and other senior communist officials lived.
